On Sunday 20 May we were delighted to host another hugely successful Open Day for Bako Wales’ customers and key suppliers.

Organised by Commercial Manager, Robert Evans, the Open Day provided an opportunity for customers to meet with new and existing Bako Wales suppliers, get inspiration for new products and grab one of the special offers which were only available on the day. Customers were also able to connect with industry advisors and associations who were present and meet the people who make up the Bako Wales team.

With so many different products available through Bako Wales, and because we’re fully aware of the forward timescales which our customers work to, suppliers from the Bakery sector were asked to focus on added value ideas for Christmas products.  This made for quite a surreal experience in the May heat!

Between opening the doors at 10:00am and wrapping up at 3:00pm, more than 250 (ESTIMATE OK?) customers came along.   All were entered into a free raffle and were able to enjoy a range of refreshments including our famous Hog Roast.

The Open Day built on our hugely successful event in 2017 and once again incorporated a tightly contested Welsh Baking Competition.

Winners of the general Baking Competition were (CAN WE HAVE THE NAMES OF WINNERS): 800g White Tin Loaf  - ****; 400g O/Bottom Coburg - *****; Bara Brith - *****;  Welsh Cakes - *****; Scones - ****; Puff Pastry Savoury - ******; Confectionery Gateaux  - *****; and Themed 12” Celebration Cake - *****

In addition to the main competition, we also ran a competition for catering students for the first time, which had categories for those at different levels of their training.  This was very well-received and is likely to be a feature of future Open Day events.
